This apartment next to Grosvenor metro on Rockville Pike, just 2 miles north of NIH or Bethesda Navy /Walter Reed main hospital.
Most people will drive - It's 5 minutes without traffic, will be longer during rush hour. The FDA and NIH Parklawn building is not a far drive, it's 3.5 miles. To get to the FDA Silver Spring location you just hop on the beltway.
The unit is 0.3 of a mile to the platform at Grosvenor metro, 5-7 minute walk at most, so it's easy to get to DC. In the morning many trains start at Grosvenor so it is easy to get a seat, plus coming home you don't have to wait for a Shady Grove train. The NIH is one metro stop away.
Depending on where you need to get to within the NIH Compound, a bus might take less time than the metro, it just depends on the exact building and the timing. The Buses stop in front of the compound.
No matter what the commute will be about as easy as it gets unless you live next door to your office.
