The Loft Room (our guest bedroom) is large (12 x 20) and furnished on the second floor of our 4-bedroom home on a lovely, private, forested property featuring azalea, rhododendron and dogwood. There is a back deck with a chiminea (fireplace) which is a great spot to relax and watch fireflies at night. Complete with Verizon FIOS Wi-Fi. Two cats also share the house. And - for the summer - a labrador named Finn who belongs to Jenny, an NIH intern who is here for the summer and travels on weekends. There is a warm, friendly atmosphere in the house - and also good privacy.
The No. 34 bus is 2 blocks away and travels down Connecticut Avenue for an easy ride to NIH and downtown DC. Westfield Mall is a 5-minute walk and hosts a movie theater, supermarkets, Costco, Target, Chipotle, CVS, and other retail. It is easy to catch the metro to D.C. via Wheaton Metro Red line, located within a half mile (15 minute walk). Street parking is always open in this residential neighborhood.
A quick walk also brings you to Wheaton's array of excellent ethnic restaurants with Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese, Italian and all manner of Latin American cuisine. Nearby downtown Kensington is known for its 'Antique Row,' a relaxing neighborhood walk away that also gains access to the MARC train. The station hosts a Saturday farmers' market with an array of local veggies, artisan cheeses, breads, free-range chicken, and ready-to-eat breakfast and lunch foods (including coffee!).
